Saint Andrew's senior, Ava Allwardt, was selected as one of 625 semifinalists to advance to the final round of the 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars competition. Ava was one of only 27 students in Florida to be selected as a semifinalist.

The program was established in 1964 by executive order of the President to "recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors." The application for this program is by invitation only, and students may not apply or be nominated for the program individually. Each year, up to 161 students are selected to be finalists.

Next, the Commission on U.S. Presidential Scholars will review the semifinalist's applications. The final selection of the high school seniors named the 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars will be announced by Dr. Miguel Cardona, U.S. Secretary of Education, in mid-May.
